LAS VEGAS, Dec. 13, 2017 -- The Vegas Golden Knights Foundation, a non-profit organization that serves as the primary charitable link between the Vegas Golden Knights hockey team and the Las Vegas community, held its inaugural Salute to Service Gala on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. The gala raised more than $775,000 for The Folded Flag Foundation and other Southern Nevada military and first responder non-profits.
The Folded Flag Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides educational grants to surviving family members of military and government employees who have lost their lives as a result of hostile action or in an accident related to U.S. combat operations. Thanks to the generous support of Black Knight and ServiceLink, which underwrite all administrative costs for the organization, The Folded Flag Foundation provides 100 percent of all its donations directly to Gold Star Families in need.
“Thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, donors and supporters, we were able to raise over $775,000 that will go directly to helping The Folded Flag Foundation and other local military charities make a difference in our community and for our Gold Star Families,” said John Coogan, President of the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation and Executive Director of The Folded Flag Foundation. “With the funds raised this Veterans Day weekend, we are better positioned to meet the educational funding needs of a projected 10,000 family members that have been left behind.”
More than 500 people attended the Salute to Service Gala, including several Vegas Golden Knights hockey players; Las Vegas County Commissioner Steve Sisolak; and Bill Foley, Chairman, CEO and Governor for Vegas Golden Knights and Founder and Chairman of the Board for The Folded Flag Foundation.
“Las Vegas once again demonstrated what a great community it is by contributing to the success of this event,” said Foley. “We are committed to providing ongoing support to our local military and first responders who put their lives on the line for us every day.”
During the gala, Sisolak presented Foley with a Key to the Las Vegas Strip. He also announced that the Board of Commissioners of Clark County, Nevada, designated Nov. 11, 2017, as Folded Flag Foundation Day.
