“The Walking Dead” season 9 episode 9 is set to be the series’ first episode when it returns after the short midseason break. The story will follow episode 8’s “Evolution” that aired on Nov. 25 but there will be a big surprise as someone is coming back from the dead.
Paul Monroe or simply Jesus, the ambassador for The Hilltop who frequently searches for new recruits, will return and he will be seen before “The Walking Dead” season 9 episode 9 concludes. With this, fans will surely witness the great comeback of a beloved character.
This piece of spoiler was revealed by none other than the actor who plays Jesus in “The Walking Dead” series. Tom Payne recently disclosed that he will be in the show again so fans should brace for it.
"There's a six-year time jump, in which a lot of stuff happened and there are the mysterious marks on Michonne and Daryl,” Tom Payne said during the Walker Stalker Con in New Jersey. “All of these things which could be explained, and Jesus may have a hand in some of that."
Also, “The Walking Dead” season 9 episode 9’s showrunner Angela Kang further explained why Jesus has to appear again after he was killed off.
“And in the show, we often diverge from the paths from the comic book, because it’s just our array of characters is so different,” Comic Book quoted the showrunner as saying. “But it had to be something that really would affect the story at Hilltop and a character whose life really mattered, and what they stood for matters to our characters.”
It can be recalled that Tom Payne’s Jesus character was killed just a month ago during the midseason’s final episode (ep. 8). A Whisperer stabbed him when he tried to slash the person he mistook as a walker. Unfortunately, the Hilltop leader could not be saved anymore and this means, he’s dead already.
Angela Kang shared that Jesus’ death is necessary. In fact, this plot was already planned since the beginning, as it will pave the way for the Whisperer storyline.
Meanwhile, “The Walking Dead” season 9 episode 9 will air on Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
