As the countdown for the return of “This Is Us” continues, more and more plot details emerge. However, a wild theory emerged this week speculating that Randall (Sterling K. Brown) may have a biological brother. It was also confirmed that “This Is Us” season 3 will show Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) first awkward date.
Last week, showrunner Dan Fogelman shared a photo that ignited the said wild fan theory about “This Is Us” season 3. William (Ron Cephas Jones), Randall’s biological father, is seen in a photo happily holding a baby. Fogelman’s caption confirms that the photo is related to the events happening in “This Is Us” season 3.

William was much younger (portrayed by Jermel Nakia) when he had Randall, which is also why he decided to leave him at the fire station, so someone more capable could adopt him. But the William in the “This Is Us” season 3 photo is actor Ron Cephas Jones, which means the baby is much younger than Randall. Fans who have seen the previous seasons know that the baby cannot be Randall since Rebecca strictly prohibited William from ever seeing Randall.
If the photo does indicate that Randall has a biological sibling, it is going to be interesting how he will learn about it. Though Cephas is possibly returning in a flashback scene in “This Is Us” season 3, it can be recalled that he already died in season 2. And he has never told Randall about a sibling even when they visited Memphis.
Meanwhile, “This Is Us” season 3 is confirmed to feature more moments in the past of Jack, including his tour of duty in Vietnam and how his brother Nicky (Michael Angarano) died. But the series also goes back to another very important event in his life — his first date with Rebecca.
Last week, during an Emmy consideration event, the said first date was previewed. According to USA Today, the sequence includes an awkward but very romantic scene where Jack explains why he did not get an umbrella for Rebecca.
For their first date, the two go to a carnival but Jack only has $9 in his pocket. Making things worse, it starts raining. “If I bought the umbrella, I wouldn't have enough to play any of the games. … You don't bring a girl to a carnival and not let her play any games,” Jack reportedly tells Rebecca, who still ends up giving the struggling man a kiss to seal a good first date. “This Is Us” season 3 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
