‘Total War: Warhammer 2’ update: Players can test out potential changes in ‘Proving Grounds’ before they make it the main game

“Total War: Warhammer 2” will be turning three years old this year. However, developers Creative Assembly and Feral Interactive continue to improve the gaming experience for its players via new content and introducing new legendary lords, races, units, as well as tweaks to its game mechanics.

The team admits that the addition of so many things into the game has become a bit of a challenge with time. “It’s become an absolute hell-pit abomination to keep everything balanced with each successive content addition,” the developers said in a blog post.

“Changing everything at once is waaay too risky for the live game,” the developers said. One of the solutions they’ve come up with is to introduce a new “Total War: Warhammer 2” mode, an experimental beta called Proving Grounds.

“We’ve created an experimental beta called the Proving Grounds, where we’ve tinkered with various aspects of balancing across all the races, safely away from the main game,” the blog said. As its name suggests, the beta would be a way for the team to gauge which changes should make it to the main game and which should be discarded.

“There’ll be some extreme changes, designed to push the limits of our balance understanding, and maybe we’ll find some that players enjoy enough for us to implement in the main game,” the post added. “This beta will run for a limited time, while it continues to generate useful feedback.”

This means that not everything that players will see in the Proving Grounds will make the cut. “To be crystal clear, we can’t guarantee that ANY of the changes in the Proving Grounds will make it into the main game,” the developers warned. “This isn’t like one of our conventional update betas, where everything on the list is ultimately intended to go into the live game.”

For “Total War: Warhammer II” players who wish to join Proving Grounds, just right click on the game in the Steam Library, Game Spot reported. Then click “Properties,” and access the Beta tab where the warhammerii_1.8.4 build must be selected.

The player’s build will update. However, it must be noted that doing so will have an impact on campaigns that the player is currently playing. Developers suggest wrapping up the campaigns before joining the beta.
