HBO's award-winning sci-fi western will be taking a radical shift in its storytelling for “Westworld” season 3, as promised by the show's creators, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.
With the radical shift in the show's direction comes an unexpected announcement for a new cast member. “Breaking Bad” alum Aaron Paul, who played Bryan Cranston's partner-in-crime Jessie Pinkman, has been confirmed to join “Westworld” season 3 as a regular cast member.
Aaron Paul's entry into “Westworld” season 3 is still an enigma. No details have been released about the role that Paul will play in the upcoming installment. Fans can potentially look forward to Aaron Paul's character not being a host is a possibility considering that “Westworld” season 3.
Jeffrey Wright, who plays the host Bernard, mentions in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that “Westworld” season 3 opens up the possibility of storylines where former hosts have to blend in with humanity. Coupled with the challenge that the hosts who have been able to escape the park have their own perspectives on humanity, Aaron Paul's upcoming casting as a non-host can be a great foil for the show's established characters.
Aaron Paul won't be the first “Breaking Bad” actor to make an appearance in the show with his “Westworld” season 3 casting. Giancarlo Esposito, who played one of “Breaking Bad's” most memorable villains, Gustavo Fring, has already made a cameo in “Westworld”. Esposito played the role of El Lazo II in season 2's “Reunion” episode.
Fans who cannot wait to see how Aaron Paul will influence the dynamic and storytelling of “Westworld” season 3 may have a long wait ahead of them. HBO has yet to provide a confirmed target for the upcoming installment's premiere. Fans can hopefully look forward to the fall of 2019 or early 2020 for “Westworld” season 3.
