Considering how Apple was quite adamant in pushing the Face ID feature of the iPhone X, it was a surprise to know that the company might be thinking of taking a step back. It could do so by implementing the Touch ID, which is something that is already present in many other Android phones. However, a patent suggests that the Cupertino firm could go one step further by also implementing Ear ID for the iPhone 11.
To be clear, these are all just speculations based on leaks, at this point. In particular, the matter of the iPhone 11 coming with Touch ID is coming off of the patent that Apple filed, CNET reports. As such, it’s possible that the next iPhone could finally keep up with the rest of the industry in unlocking the device with a tap on the screen.
However, the patent also suggests that the company is working on a technology that could unlock the device with the use of an owner’s ear. That’s right, Apple could be working on Ear ID technology where among the speculated uses could be to unlock the phone by simply pressing it against the ear. This could be useful for when there is a call, but there is no guarantee that such a feature will be on the iPhone 11.
If these patents are any indication, however, it’s clear that Apple is trying to leverage its R&D capabilities to try and separate itself from other manufacturers. The company was once known for introducing innovative new technologies, after all. The iPhone 11 could be where it starts getting back some of its mojo.
Then again, there are the leaks of the iPhone 11 to think about, along with its weird rear camera slab. If the leaks are any indication, Apple might seriously succeed in distinguishing itself from the competition in a spectacular manner.
