About Indianapolis 500
The Indianapolis 500 is the world’s most prestigious auto race and an iconic American tradition. It has taken place annually since 1911 except for America’s involvement in world wars from 1917-18 and 1942-45. The world’s greatest drivers have competed in the 500-mile race on the 2.5-mile oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 101 editions of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” with the winners earning the traditional drink of milk, a spot on the famous Borg-Warner Trophy and racing immortality. The Indianapolis 500 is the world’s largest single-day spectator sporting event, attracting crowds of approximately 300,000 every Memorial Day weekend.
