PHOENIX, June 28, 2017 -- This July, as millions of Americans hit the road for summer vacations, Cruise America, the nation’s leading provider of recreational vehicle rentals (RV’s), celebrates a milestone: 45 years of delivering RV vacations to families and camping enthusiasts the world over.
Founders Randall and Robert Smalley, Jr., helped their late father launch American Land Cruisers in South Miami, Florida in 1972. The senior Mr. Smalley, former CEO of Hertz Rent a Car, became intrigued with RV rentals after Hertz piloted a similar program in 1968.
After 21 years in Miami, Florida, Cruise America moved its headquarters out west in 1993. Today the Mesa, Arizona-based company operates over 120 locations across the lower 48 United States, Alaska and Canada.
Of all their accomplishments over the last 45 years, the Smalley’s say they are proudest of the memories they have helped create for customers along the way.
“We are extremely fortunate to work in an industry that unites people. That unity is enabled by our fleet of 4,500 motorhomes and our nearly three hundred hard-working employees across the US and Canada. We are passionate about this product and this lifestyle,” Randall Smalley said. “There is something magical about the classic American road trip that seems to strengthen the bonds of family and friends alike.”
“This has always been true, but is especially so in today’s fast-paced world,” added Robert Smalley, Jr. “Our 45th anniversary is a tremendous milestone for the Company and our customers and we want to thank them for their continued loyalty and appreciation for what we do.”
To celebrate the anniversary, the Company has begun a series of surprise rental discounts to existing customers throughout the Company’s summer season.
Additional plans include photo and video contests for Cruise America RV vacationers, as well as charitable tie-ins with local, not-for-profit organizations that support and promote national parks, camping, family and children’s causes including the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
