VANCOUVER, March 22, 2017 - The BC Innovation Council, a provincial Crown agency focused on fueling B.C.'s economy through the advancement of B.C. tech and market-driven innovation, announced today a province-wide IoT Innovation search held in conjunction with the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI). A total of $50,000 will be available to help solve five different IoT challenges.
The finalist for each challenge submission will be awarded $10,000. Submissions must be received by the April 17, 2017 deadline. The five challenges are:
- IoT Smart Gateway
- IoT Event Stream Processing
- IoT Analytics
- IoT BC Highway Cameras
- IoT Open Innovation
Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of experts who will select five candidates to work with government to develop a Proof of Concept (POC). Submission information can be found at bcic.ca/events/iot-discovery-day/iot-submission
The initiative will enhance transportation and improve public safety while boosting the local technology sector. It enables MOTI to collaborate with the B.C. technology community and provides local innovators an opportunity to secure a significant customer in the provincial government.
"This event is inspiring the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit in B.C. and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is glad to be part of it," said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Todd Stone. "We use technology in so many areas of our transportation system that I am looking forward to seeing how these innovators can find even more ways to use tech to help British Columbians get where they need to go as safely and efficiently as possible."
Finalists will also receive mentorship and other services from MOTI and the BC Innovation Council's Innovation Exchange™. The Innovation Exchange™ leverages a provincial and national network of opportunities (talent, capital, market connections, and ideas) to advance technologies to meet the needs of industry and government in B.C.
"We are laser-focused on connecting B.C. innovation to market challenges in government and industry," said Carl Anderson, President and CEO, BC Innovation Council. "We're helping to solve industry challenges and improve government services, while providing B.C. tech access to an immediate customer that can be a stepping stone to global markets."
