Mods have become a huge part of gaming, especially in the PC community. They are what allow titles like Fallout and Skyrim to still have a sizeable player base, years after they were launched. Now, the most recent title to create a buzz with regards to modding is the gritty and realistic medieval game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The mod is basically intended to bring the world of Game of Thrones into the title.
There are a few things worth noting here that newcomers to the discussion need to know. For starters, Kingdom Come: Deliverance isn’t out yet. The game is scheduled for release on February 13th, Comicbook.com reports.
The historical RPG is also heavily marketed as a more realistic take of the genre, forgoing magic and fantastical move sets, and instead focusing on fighting mechanics that are closer to what actual soldiers used in that time period. As fans of GoT are well aware of, magic pervades the world of Westeros rather deeply.
As such, modding Deliverance to look and feel like the world of GoT could go against the original spirit of the game. Then again, it could also serve to attract RPG fans who like a little magic in their game to at least try out one of the most highly anticipated titles in the genre.
The mod itself is being developed by the same people behind the GoT mod in Total War: Attila. On the team’s FAQ page, the developers explained how they could create a mod for a game that isn’t even out yet and expressed confidence that the studio behind the game wouldn’t object to their work at all.
“Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a brand new game (to be released on February 13th) utilizing the powerful CryEngine. This means it's easier to create quality assets and to render them with next-gen shaders. The open-world and story-driven aspects of the game are better suited to the Game of Thrones universe, giving us much more potential for new features and gameplay modes. Most importantly, Warhorse Studios stands behind the modding community and has been very vocal about supporting mods,” the mod creators wrote.
