AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 12, 2017 -- A. Schulman, Inc. (Nasdaq:SHLM) a leading international supplier of high-performance plastic compounds, composites, powders, and resins, will present its latest product innovation at PLASTIMAGEN MÉXICO® 2017 on November 7-10, 2017 in Mexico City, Mexico. A. Schulman will exhibiting in Booth #122, where the Company will showcase one of the widest portfolios of the Latin American compounders including engineered composites, thermoplastics, color and additive concentrates as well as rotomolding and technical powders.
“We are excited to present our latest, innovative products which address our customers’ key needs in terms of better materials processing, productivity and sustainability,” said Gustavo Perez, senior vice president and general manager, Latin America. “Our extensive knowledge of the Latin American plastics industry coupled with our technical capabilities and wide product portfolio makes us, A. Schulman, a true partner to develop the materials in need in today’s marketplace.”
The Company will present the following new developments:
- For niche automotive applications, the Company provides a broad range of polyamide 6 and 66 Schulamid® RD compounds. These solutions have reduced density relying on a special set of resins while maintaining similar levels of mechanical and thermal properties. As a drop-in substitution for regular nylon compounds, it provides the same shrinkage, processing parameters and easy-to-produce characteristics with the advantage of reduced drying time before molding. The new grades are available with different levels of glass fiber (GF) reinforcement ranging from GF 15 to GF 30.
- Also for the automotive market, A. Schulman provides a portfolio of polypropylene Polyfort® RD compounds with reduced density and added low-density filler that imparts dimensional stability and similar molding shrinkage to the equivalent filled polypropylene compound. The materials present long-term heat stabilization and weathering resistance. The color matching capabilities for Polyfort® RD are also available in Latin America. These materials allow the weight reduction of structural parts up to 10%. The current active grades are available both as polypropylene homopolymers and copolymers. This new reduced density portfolio offers OEMs the material to improve the vehicle’s energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- In the area of agricultural films, the Company offers Polybatch® AC masterbatch which allows growers to produce higher crop yields, eliminate most crop diseases and prevent over pigmentation of the crops through the use of UV blocking masterbatch based on nano-metallic oxides.
- A. Schulman’s Engineered Composites business presents its latest development, LYTEX™ SF, an epoxy-based material presenting low out gassing, reduced volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and low odor. This next generation compound also is simple to process, providing the ability to lower overall system costs.
In addition, A. Schulman, Inc., has entered an alliance with Braskem, the largest resin producer in the Americas, to produce and market a new green polyethylene application geared for improving the rotomolding market. A. Schulman will offer the new solution under the brand “I’m Green™” which refers to the reduced greenhouse gas emissions the new material will help customers to achieve.
