ADT Helps Save St. Louis Family From House Fire

Taylor and her three children survived a fire that erupted at 2:20 a.m. in the garage of their two-story home. They were awakened by the beeping of a non-monitored smoke detector. Coming downstairs to investigate, the family saw heavy smoke coming through a door to the garage. Taylor’s son, Jerrel Wilson, opened the door and was horrified to see four-foot flames.

“It happened so fast,” said Wilson. “It seemed like every second the flames got bigger and I realized this would be a disaster unless we got help.”

Unable to find a phone through the dark smoke, Taylor pushed the buttons on her ADT alarm panel, signaling Stacey Fiorvanti, a dispatcher at ADT’s Customer Care Center in Rochester, New York.

When Fiorvanti called the home to verify the fire, Taylor’s daughter said in a panicky voice, “The house is on fire. Send help.”

First responders quickly arrived and knocked down the fire within an hour. But smoke and water damage forced the family out of the home for months while it was repaired.

Taylor is relieved her house is still standing and no one was hurt. “It was a blessing that ADT called us. I didn’t even think to call 911. Having ADT do that saved us,” said Taylor. “We are so grateful.”

Taylor showed her gratitude at the ADT LifeSaver event by publicly thanking ADT employees and firefighters from the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District.

ADT contributed $5,000 to the fire department and State Farm® matched that amount because it insured the Taylor house.

Upon receiving the combined $10,000 contribution, Deputy Chief Mark Flauter said, “This call was an excellent example of how everything worked and everybody collaborated for a successful outcome. A potential tragedy was avoided due to the quick alert from ADT to our 911 dispatch.”
