Cliff Bleszinski is known as the creator of the Gears of War series but has since struggled to come up with a new IP that really resonated with players. His latest attempt at making a video game ended horribly with the multiplayer online arena shooter LawBreakers barely making a dent in the market. Now, he wants to try his hands at the Battle Royale scene, where Fortnite currently reigns supreme.
This new development was announced by Boss Key Productions, Bleszinski’s studio, which notes that it is releasing a new game in the 100-player free for all genre soon. It even has a Steam page already, which provides some insights into what it will entail.
"Partake in high-stakes battle royale gunplay in a sunny SoCal dome as contestants drive-by on BMX bikes or stalk other contestants from the shadows in search for weapons and prizes," the Steam page reads. "But also cash that you can bank--win or lose! Whether you spend that cash on righteous customization in your personal prize room or pull it from an ATM to purchase weapons early in the next game--building a wealth of cash is as important as taking down the competition in this irreverent 80s-themed action game show where everyone wants to be rich and famous."
Sporting an eye-wateringl 80s vibe, the new game that will be called “Radical Heights” is certainly trying hard to set itself apart by being stylistically distinct as possible. Naturally, some aspects will inevitably be similar to that of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite Battle Royale. Like the latter, it will also be free.
The developers are basically trying to give their own twist to the formula that others have popularized, GameSpot reports. This is why the game will be in Early Access for about a year, according to the studio.
"This gives us time to solidify the foundation of the game with our community, build out additional features, and develop a solid understanding of what works, what doesn't, and flesh out a full release content plan based on what we think is right for the game," Boss Key says.
