‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Season 4, Episode 12 Spoilers: “Hot Potato Soup” – Coulson’s Team Attempts to Save Koenig Twins Pursued During Search for Darkhold

Title Card for ABC's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ season 4’s episode 12, titled “Hot Potato Soup,” is set to feature Coulson and his team as they attempt to save the Koenig twins, who are hunted down during the search for the powerful Darkhold.

The brief synopsis for “Hot Potato Soup” posted on TV Guide reads, “Two agents are hunted during a search for the Darkhold book, and the team try to save them.” It seems that the upcoming episode will feature agents Sam and Billy Koenig (Patton Oswalt) on the run and only Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team will be able to save them before time runs out.

Episode 12 will mark the return of writer and comedian Patton Oswalt in his double-role as agent Sam and agent Billy on the television adaptation of the fictional peacekeeping and spy agency based on the original Marvel comic books. It will feature the remaining Koenig brothers as they are caught in the crossfire of Sen. Nadeer’s (Parminder Nagra) unrelenting search for the Darkhold book.

The Darkhold, otherwise known as the Book of Sins, is a tome full of mystical spells that gives its readers power to build and create things of their utmost desire. It is the anti-thesis of the Book of Vishanti that contains powerful white counterspells. Since the Darkhold is said to contain infitine knowledge, it has been pursued by several characters through its course of history including Nick Fury, Red Skull, and Daniel Whitehall.

The Koenig brothers are the last known holders of the Darkhold, which explains why bounty hunters are out to capture them. In the promo, Coulson, Daisy (Chloe Bennet), and May (Ming-Na Wen) are seen successfully rescuing one of the twins. However, the other twin is abducted and is forced to succumb to torture.

According to Christian Times, the Koenig twin rescued by Coulson admits that he doesn’t know of the Darkhold’s whereabouts to which Coulson expresses his concern. The upcoming episode will also feature the Koenig family’s back story. It was speculated that the Koenigs may actually be Life Model Decoys (LMD).

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ season 4’s episode 12, titled “Hot Potato Soup,” is scheduled to air on ABC on January 31, 2017. It was directed by Nina Lopez-Corrado and written by Craig Titley. It will be followed by episode 13, titled “BOOM,” scheduled for February 7.
