First, it was Instagram to clone the Stories feature of Snapchat and now, it’s Airbnb. It might not seem like the most sensible progression, but it is what it is. The temporary home for travelers service launched the new feature to basically allow its users to build video or photo montages of their experience. In a way, it’s actually a natural fit for the service.
What’s really interesting about this particular development, however, is the fact that Airbnb implemented the feature without too much fanfare. In fact, the most that it did was send out invitations for select individuals to test out the beta format of the new service, TechCrunch reports.
Details with regards to the new format can also be found on the FAQ page of Airbnb. Interested users can check it out to learn more about the new feature and how it works.
“We are releasing a new feature that allows guests to show off their unique trip. Travel stories are made up of short video sequences, which are accompanied by a caption and location,” the page reads.
“You can access the tool in the profile view under ‘Travel Stories.’ Currently, it is only available on iPhone and you must have the latest version of the app.”
It would seem that users can only take clips that last 10 seconds for every shot. These clips can then be edited using the Airbnb app so that they can create a video montage.
As The Verge notes, this new development falls in line with the service’s recent push to become more compatible with the burgeoning social media mindset of the public. As a travel agency that basically relies on being more socially adaptable as well as being compatible with the social media landscape, implementing a Stories features makes a lot of sense to make it more palatable to users.
