Chinese internet giant Alibaba’s online health service Alibaba Health Information Technology Ltd. is collaborating with Changzhou’s government to pilot blockchain solutions for health treatments, Yicai Global reported.
Ali Health will trial blockchain-based medical treatment applications in the city. The project aims to address the existing issues in the healthcare industry in an economical and secure way. In particular, it seeks to solve the information silos and data security problems currently faced by medical institutions.
"The blockchain pilot for Changzhou’s medical treatment systems is the first blockchain application based on medical treatment scenarios in China," said Liu Tie, technical leader of Ali Health’s blockchain technology, as quoted by Yicai Global.
Tie explained that blockchain technology would enable doctors to quickly learn about a patient’s medical history and health examination information. It would remove the need for repeated unnecessary basic examinations, thereby making treatments faster and cheaper.
“Ali Health’s blockchain technology connects information by using our current equipment and systems,” said Zhang Zhihong, director at Zhenglu Town Health Center in Changzhou. “It is cost effective and safe. With blockchain, health centers and district hospitals are interconnected so that the people can enjoy convenient medical services.”
