“Alita: Battle Angel 2” is definitely coming although there is no official announcement yet. There are many reasons why the second installment is still going to be produced, however, the production team may not be talking about it yet due to the busy schedules of its executive producer and director.
In particular, the brains of the “Alita: Battle Angel” James Cameron is focused on his “Avatar” movie series so working on the Japanese manga-based film is currently not possible. But given that his schedule will be more accommodating, then works for the film can begin. Besides, he and director Robert Rodriguez have the draft for “Alita” already, Digital Spy reported.
Cameron and Rodriguez also revealed that they really have plans for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” so the sequel is already confirmed even without announcements from 20th Century Fox. Moreover, the first movie’s ending was open-ended and clearly stating that a continuation is coming.
"Well, we obviously have a plan for that, but it's cheeky to set up a sequel before you're proven. That can blow back in your face,” Cameron told the media during the press event for “Alita.” “We think of something like Warcraft that was clearly set up with the intention to do sequels, and then it becomes mock-able because the film doesn't succeed.”
What’s more, “Alita: Battle Angel” earned US$403 million worldwide as per IMDB, and this figure is enough to convince the people behind the movie to produce a follow-up. The production budget was only US$170 million, which means the movie was successful.
Meanwhile, “Alita Battle Angel” is coming to Blu-Ray and DVD. The digital versions of the first film are set to be released on July 9 for Digital HD and on July 23 for Blu-Ray, DVD and 4K UHD. The dates are for U.S. release and fans can purchase them on iTunes and Amazon Prime Video, IGN reported.
