With all of the rumors and reports of the future seasons of “American Crime Story,” showrunner Ryan Murphy finally divulged his and the producers’ plans for the show’s upcoming seasons.
First up. Murphy, who also is behind “Glee” and “American Horror Story,” said fans of the series should not expect another “The People Vs OJ Simpson.” He told Entertainment Weekly that he and the producers are looking forward to develop something different this time.
“I don’t want to do the Menendez [brothers] thing — we did that. So every year, every season we’re looking at a way to sort of plant the flag of that show into something but have it be dramatically different,” he added.
Murphy could be referring to the upcoming seasons of “American Crime Story,” which is a retelling of the 1997 murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace by Andrew Cunanan and a story centered around Hurricane Katrina. The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed that Murphy has optioned author Jeffrey Toobin’s book about Monica Lewinsky and the White House scandal.
Murphy shared that they haven’t yet settled on their lead stars for their future shows yet. People.com quoted Murphy, who explained, “The interesting thing that I’ve learned in my career now is I used to be like, ‘Let’s hurry up and get it done.’ And now I’m like, ‘You know what? No. Let’s stop, let’s wait, let’s have the luxury of attack mode.”
Would this mean that the premieres of future seasons of “American Crime Story” will be delayed? Murphy declined, and said they wanted to have the luxury of time in order to create a great show.
Using his upcoming new show “Feud,” Murphy said they just want to take time in order to create a great show. "Feud" premieres in March. The Gianni Versace and Monica Lewinsky seasons will both debut in 2018.
“Even though it happened really quickly, we spent a lot of time in prep, we spent a lot of time working on the scripts. We started shooting with five or six of the eight episodes kind of done. I like that and I think it sort of makes a better show,” he added.
