The first movie made about the legendary video game property Doom didn’t exactly work as well as the creators hoped, despite the presence of relatively known actors, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Karl Urban. It flopped when it released in theatres and was critically panned. However, it seems Universal Studios is making another one and this time, it might either by direct to DVD or will release on an online streaming service.
NBCUniversal recently confirmed the plan to make the movie to Variety, with the publication noting that the studio making it, Universal 1440 Entertainment, is more well-known for non-theatrical releases. As such, even though the movie is being made right now, it won’t likely make it to the big screen as its predecessor did.
Among the studio’s recent works include the movie “Tremors” and it even made a film called “Aliens Ate My Homework.” So, it’s not exactly the grade-A movie production company that handled the previous Doom film.
One of the actors who has been confirmed to appear on the film includes Nina Bergman. Inan Tweet, she posted a photo with the caption that provides some details about the movie.
“Wow, I’m doing the next ‘Doom’ movie with Universal Pictures! I just signed all the paperwork. I get to go back to Bulgaria again and work with some of my favorite people. This movie with a super cool director AND my new record coming out, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world,” the Tweet reads.
As Engadget notes, very little is known about the movie, at this point. There have been no plot details and the technical aspects have not been revealed either.
The one good thing about this particular news is the possibility that it will make it to streaming services like Netflix. This could give it the chance to reach a much wider audience that won’t significantly pose a significant financial risk for Universal. Who knows? It might even be good.
