Apple continues its venture in producing digital entertainment media content as it recently closed a deal on a series focused on the life of Emily Dickinson starring singer and actress Hailee Steinfeld.

Some of the earliest known poems of Dickinson were published or written in the 1890s. The Massachusetts native is also often described as eccentric, reclusive, and a woman who was fond of the color white. Interestingly, most of Dickinson’s works were published only after her death.

The project appears to still be in its early stages of production but there are already some insights into what part of Dickinson’s life (1830-1886) the series will mostly shed light on. The upcoming show, according to TechCrunch, is being presented as a window into the American poet’s coming-of-age but with a modern touch.

The Hollywood Reporter added that the show, titled “Dickinson,” will delve into the poet’s struggles as a young, budding writer dealing with the socially accepted concepts of being a woman during her time.

Meanwhile, reports also shared that Apple ordered the show straight to series. This means it will not have the conventional pilot episode and all installments will be distributed on the date of its official release. This format has become more common with the rise of entertainment streaming platforms like Netflix.

Steinfeld made her mark as an actress in 2010 after earning various awards plus an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in “True Grit.” More recently, Steinfeld has been known for her roles in the second and third movie installments of “Pitch Perfect.” But “Dickinson” is going to be the artist’s first-ever regular role for a TV show.

“Dickinson” will be written by Alena Smith, who is known for working on “The Affair” and “The Newsroom.” David Gordon will sit in the director’s seat. Smith will also take on an executive producer role.

Steve Golin’s Anonymous Content is also attached to the making of “Dickinson.” The production company has also worked on other popular series such as “Mr. Robot,” “13 Reasons Why,” “True Detective,” “The OA” and more.

An official release date for “Dickinson” is yet to be announced.
