Apple is preparing to transform its Intelligence servers by introducing the M4 Ultra chips next year, moving away from the M2 Ultra. Foxconn is ramping up production in Taiwan to support this significant upgrade in AI processing power.
Apple Intelligence Servers to Adopt M4 Ultra Chips Next Year
Apparently, next year, Apple Intelligence servers will be running on a variant of the M4 chip—possibly the Ultra variant—as reported by Nikkei Asia. Thus, the M4 Ultra chip will supersede the M2 Ultra chips in the company's servers that are dedicated to artificial intelligence.
Foxconn to Manufacture Additional Servers in Taiwan
According to the article, Apple has also acquired Foxconn, its primary supplier, and will have more Apple Intelligence servers manufactured in Taiwan.
WCCFTECH assumes the company will utilize the M4 Ultra based on its patterns and the growing user base for Apple Intelligence, but we don't know which M4 variation the company will employ for its servers. This theory is further supported by the company's historical practices, which included using the M2 Ultra microprocessor rather than the 'Pro' or 'Max' version.
Anticipated Launch of M4 Ultra Chip in Late 2025
Although Apple has remained tight-lipped on the release date of its much-anticipated M4 Ultra chip, speculation has pointed to the second half of 2025 as the likely launch window.
Along with the new Mac Pro and Mac Studio, Apple will unveil the M4 Ultra processor, a new chipset that will significantly improve graphical performance and provide better computational benefits. The system on a chip is ideal for the business because it is anticipated to outperform Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4090 in the OpenCL and Vulkan APIs.
Possibility of Standard M4 Chip in Servers
Apple Intelligence servers will reportedly use the standard M4 chip rather than the Ultra model, according to Haitong Securities' Jeff Pu.
In addition, it is not yet known if the switch from the M2 Ultra chip to the M4 chip will be implemented gradually or all at once by the corporation. Servers hosted by Apple Intelligence provide processing for user commands that are stored in the cloud.
Dependence on Cloud Computing for Advanced Features
Since these functions necessitate processing power above what some mobile devices can provide, they are dependent on cloud computing.
Next month, Apple will unveil further features for Apple Intelligence, such as Siri's capability to connect with ChatGPT for assistance in any situation. We will inform you once the update is ready.
