It’s been over two weeks since the release of Apple Watch 5 and users have already made their verdict about the brand new entry. So far, the general consensus leans towards the positive but with a few criticisms here and there.
Perhaps the biggest setback of the Apple Watch 5 is that the Cupertino-based tech giant didn’t bother upgrading the battery. The company claims that the new variant can last up to 18-hours a day similar to last year’s entry.
Of course, this differs depending on how much you use the device. Some users have reported that the Apple Watch 5 can indeed last up to 18 hours. But others say that it can only reach until 12 hours of use before the warning pops up that it’s already breathing its last bar of battery, Time reported.
Apple Watch 5 is still the best wearable today
With that being said, the Apple Watch 5 is still miles ahead of the competition due to the host of features it brings. It can help women track their menstrual cycles, monitor decibel levels in a given area, ECG and heart-rate monitoring, fall detection, and the always-on display is a godsend.
Interestingly enough, the Apple Watch 5’s most praised feature is the always-on display, mostly due to users requesting it for years. The feature is thanks to the “temperature polysilicone and oxide display (LTPO), ultra-low power display driver, efficient power management integrated circuit, and new ambient light sensor” that Apple outfitted on the wearable.
Apple Watch 5 doesn’t have sleep tracking
Unfortunately, those who have been waiting for the sleep tracking feature will have to wait as the rumors that it’s going to be included in the Apple Watch 5 was exactly that, a rumor. The speculation first started when the tech giant acquired Beddit, a company specializing in sleep tracking hardware.
As for those who are attempting to download a third-party sleep monitoring app, don’t bother since – as mentioned earlier – the battery life of the Apple Watch 5 isn’t enough to take advantage of the application. Maybe next year’s entry will finally add this feature. But again, if Apple doesn’t upgrade the battery, then the sleep tracking app isn’t a viable option. It needs to at least last for more than 24 hours, something that would truly push the series the new heights.
