Speaking to Al Jazeera, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran had reviewed U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s message and discussed it at high-level meetings, with no need to meet U.S. officials at present.

IRNA’s account of the interview identified Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, as the message’s recipient. Araghchi said the decision on direct or indirect talks depends on Washington accepting Tehran’s conditions; Qatar and Pakistan are mediating. The interview gave no date for a decision on talks.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency had previously reported that Tehran received Vance’s letter but had not answered it. EconoTimes previously covered Tasnim’s account of the unanswered letter.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Vance had asked about helping Iran obtain medical supplies. Trump said he had not tasked Vance with restarting peace talks.
