TAMPA, Fla., May 20, 2016 -- Associa Gulf Coast is proud to announce that Island Place Condominium is the winner of the Florida Communities of Excellence Award for Water Conservation in the small community category.
The ceremony took place on May 13 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. It is considered the only comprehensive, independent recognition program for community associations throughout Florida. The program enables the top communities in the state to promote their accomplishments and raise their profiles while documenting their success and enabling others to learn from their examples.
"The Island Place association board took the findings of its irrigation audit to heart and made some major changes to its irrigation systems," said Associa Gulf Coast President Michael Fleming. "We are proud to be able to work with a community that genuinely cares about the well-being of its residents and looks for ways to cut costs while protecting the environment."
Among its improvements, the community converted to rotator spray heads with check valves to elimi¬nate low-head drainage, water waste is now prevented by ongoing review of bills and inspection of heads, valves, etc., ongoing education has been implemented through newsletters and workshops, Water Sense dishwash¬ers, low-water toilets, low-flow shower heads and digital water meters that identify potential leaks were installed along with point source drip irriga¬tion for beds, smart controllers, evapotranspiration sensors and pressure-regu¬lated heads with high-efficiency rotators. The on-site golf courses have already seen significant savings from using handheld soil moisture probes and a liquid overseed program.
