According to Sport Cal, Aston Villa has reportedly agreed to a new kit deal with German sportswear giant Adidas while still under contract with UK manufacturer Castore.
The move signifies a clear shift in Aston Villa's strategy, aiming to enhance brand performance and provide players with top-quality attire, as per Sports Pro Media.
Adidas will take over as Aston Villa's kit manufacturer from the 2024-25 season, with Villa's association with Castore ending after two controversial seasons. The decision comes as a response to players' discontent with Castore's kits, citing concerns about their ability to absorb sweat and their overall performance impact on the field.
Personal Connection and Business Ventures
Aston Villa chairman and co-owner Nassef Sawiris owns a stake in Adidas and was appointed supervisory director of its German business in 2016. This personal connection adds a unique dynamic to the partnership, showcasing Sawiris' commitment to elevating Aston Villa's standing in the football world.
It is unclear whether the deal was initially set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season or if Villa has exercised a get-out clause in the contract, mirroring the actions of fellow Premier League side Newcastle United earlier this season. In September 2023, Newcastle revealed its return to Adidas for the 2024-25 season onward, after a partnership with Castore since the beginning of the 2021-22 season.
