A high-tech soccer ball named "Fussballliebe" is set to make its European Championship debut at Euro 2024 in Germany. Developed in collaboration with UEFA and Adidas, this innovative ball aims to revolutionize offside decisions while delivering enhanced accuracy and precision in the game.
Advanced Technology for Accurate Gameplay
According to a press release by Adidas, Fussballliebe boasts a Precisionshell 20-piece panel shape and strategically placed deboss grooves on the outer shell, meticulously designed to control airflow over the ball. Through extensive laboratory and on-pitch testing, these features ensure maximum precision, reports the Associated Press.
The ball's outer shell is supported by the groundbreaking CTR-CORE technology, which provides exceptional accuracy, consistency, and air retention.
Equipped with a gyroscope chip, Fussballliebe captures and transmits data at an incredible rate of 500 times per second. This enables the recording of the exact point of contact when the ball is kicked. Match officials leverage this data, along with visualizations from multiple camera angles, to make accurate offside decisions.
Introduction of Adidas Connected Ball Technology
Euro 2024 marks the first time the Official Match Ball features adidas Connected Ball Technology. This groundbreaking innovation offers real-time precise ball data to video match officials, contributing to UEFA's semi-automated offside technology.
By integrating player position data with AI, this technology supports faster in-match decisions and enables VAR officials to accurately identify every touch of the ball, reducing the time spent resolving handball and penalty incidents.
The connected ball technology provides unparalleled insights into the ball's movement throughout the game. This data further enhances UEFA's video assistant refereeing decision-making process, offering a comprehensive understanding of each element of the game.
Captivating Design Symbolizing Energy of the Game
The design of Fussballliebe is inspired by the vibrant energy of football and its global fanbase. Prominent black wing shapes, adorned with colorful edges, curves, and dots, represent the ball's movement during gameplay.
The bold red, blue, green, and orange color schemes celebrate the vibrancy brought by participating nations. Ultimately, the design captures the pure simplicity of football that resonates with fans worldwide. Additionally, each stadium hosting the tournament is illustrated on the ball, showcasing the unity of the host cities.
