“Attack on Titan” chapter 117 will pick up from a major cliffhanger where Eren appears to be at a major disadvantage. However, the final moments in chapter 116 also suggests that a one-on-one battle between Eren and Reiner could be brewing.
The last pages of chapter 116 were definitely building up for more action-packed scenes in “Attack on Titan” chapter 117. Pieck made it look like she was completely betraying Marley by “giving” information of their whereabouts to Eren. However, it was all just a ruse so Eren could be in the open and Porco Galliard’s Jaw Titan could eat the Founding Titan that is currently possessed by Eren.
Porco only severed Eren’s legs but he was also seen protecting Pieck and Gabi. But a much bigger problem for Eren now is the gunship of Marleyans and a visibly determined Reiner Braun who wants to avenge Liberio. The very last panel of chapter 116 showed Reiner being resolved that they will eventually claim the Founding Titan “to get revenge for Liberio.” So many fans are expecting him to directly fight with Eren in “Attack on Titan” chapter 117.
Meanwhile, it would also make sense to see Eren fight Porco’s Jaw Titan first in “Attack on Titan” chapter 117. Considering that chapter 116 already ended with them face to face, seeing them in an initial battle is highly plausible. A fan on Reddit suggested that while Eren and Porco fight, Reiner could first attempt to retrieve Pieck, Gabi, and Falco.
It will take a while before “Attack on Titan” chapter 117 is released. But manga fans can also take clues on what is going to happen from some of the dialogues in chapter 116. For one, Connie and Armin had a conversation about the latter activating his Colossus Titan so they could escape.
Armin protested that idea saying his titan is not perfectly accurate and he might end up destroying the entire town. But given the Marleyan firepower that is about to rain on them in “Attack on Titan” chapter 117, it would seem like Armin will not have another choice. “Attack on Titan” chapter 117 is slated to be released on May 9.
