BTS is the latest group that showed its support to the Black Lives Matter movement in the U.S. The members that include RM, Jungkook, V, Jin, Jimin, J-Hope and Suga have expressed their condemnation to the unjust death of George Floyd and calls on everyone to stand together.
BTS’ response and stance to the racial issues that sparked nationwide protest in America
On June 4, via the group’s official Twitter account, BTS posted a simple but powerful message as a reaction to the protest crisis in Ameria. In the post, the band wrote: “We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected.”
BTS ended the statement with the words “We will stand together and added the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter. The world-famous boy group’s social media post on the current issue came after the ARMY, their fan club, showed their support to the movement that campaigns against violence and systemic racism towards black people.
It was said that the ARMYs are also making a small sacrifice by not posting about BTS on social media. This move is an attempt to keep the focus on George Floyd’s non-sensical death and the human rights movement centered on the black race.
Donations for the movement
In any case, GMA News reported that Korean media have published articles about BTS’ agency, Big Hit Entertainment, donations to the movement. The amount was not revealed but it can surely help for a good cause.
Most of BTS’s songs speak of loving oneself and condemning discrimination, abuse, injustice and other issues in the society. Thus, it is no wonder that the group is supporting the Black Lives Matter movement as well.
Aside from BTS, those who have raised their voices against violence and racial injustice include AOMG’s Jay Park who also made a donation, GOT7’s Mark Tuan, Girls Generation’s Tiffany, rapper pH-1, MOMOLAND members and Red Velvet’s Yeri.
Meanwhile, BTS is set to hold its first online concert on June 14. This will be held a day after marking their 7th debut anniversary via the 2020 BTS Festa event.
