It seems the Battle Royale trend in gaming is showing no signs of dying down as more games in the genre are popping up. Among the latest to throw its hat into the ring is a title called “The Darwin Project,” which shares some similarities to games like Fortnite and PUBG. For those who want to try it out, it’s currently free to download on Steam.
While the game has been thought of as a Battle Royale property, it has a more survivalist vibe to it compared to most of the titles in the same genre. With more focus on melee combat and primitive projectiles, it requires players to get really inventive and to get up close and personal. So far, it has garnered positive reviews on its Steam page even though it’s still in Early Access.
The game involves doing things like tracking opponents via the signs they leave behind, which include campfires and footprints. There are also survival elements that add that extra bit of challenge in the game to manage the health and well-being of the characters.
In terms of how many players can participate in one session, however, The Darwin Project only goes for a maximum of 10. This might be nowhere near the full 100 of titles like PUBG, which is just full-on craziness right from the start. Instead, the game offers a more intimate and tactically in-depth experience.
Originally, players had to pay to play the game, which might make this transition into F2P territory a bit awkward. However, those who bought the game are getting some sweet cosmetic items for their trouble and they can also ask for a refund if they like, Engadget reports. The developers promise that the title will never be pay to win, as well, which is always a concern when it comes to multiplayer games.
