Last year, Ben Affleck revealed to the world that he’s been struggling with alcohol addiction for quite some time and is trying to distance himself from the substance. His ex-partner, Jennifer Garner, is concerned about the “Batman” actor’s health, so much so that she delayed their divorced because of it. Now, “The Town” actor’s problem supposedly spilled over to his friendship with Matt Damon.
As Radar Online (via Gossip Cop) would have it, Matt Damon apparently decided to turn his back on Ben Affleck because of his alcoholism. “Sometimes you have to step away to let people save themselves,” Damon supposedly said to an insider who spoke with the gossip magazine.
The tipster further contended that Ben Affleck will have to go through rehab alone and Matt Damon doesn’t want to do anything about any of it. But given that Radar Online has time and again published stories that are not only inaccurate but completely fabricated, readers should take the magazine’s story with a grain of salt.
There’s also the fact that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have been friends for most of their lives. The two met in Little League, where the duo developed a friendship due to their common interest.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon eventually decided they wanted to become actors and break into the entertainment industry. But given that they were a couple of nobodies back then, nobody really took them seriously. That is until they wrote “Good Will Hunting” together.
After finishing the story, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon tried pitching it to see who was interested. The film was eventually produced by Miramax, with the producers agreeing that both actors would star in it.
The film proved to be a hit, earning $263.5 million worldwide and propelling Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to stardom. Not bad for a couple of “pretty boys” who were trying to make it big.
Through their journey, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon developed a bond equal to the relationship between biological brothers. When Damon’s dad died, he told People that Affleck was like a brother to him and said that the “Argo” actor was just as devastated as he was.
Even in “Good Will Hunting,” audiences could feel that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon weren’t just acting but actually portraying their friendship onscreen. This was particularly showcased during a scene in the third act of the film where Chuckie (Affleck) was reprimanding Will (Damon) that he was wasting his God-given potential.
The truth of the matter is that there is no rift between Ben Affleck and Matt Damon despite what Radar Online is peddling. The duo has been supporting each other before they were stars and there’s no reason for Damon to leave Affleck behind especially now that the “Gone Girl” actor is going through some turbulence in his life.
