Biden to Host Trump at White House in Historic Meeting
In a landmark moment for American politics, President Joe Biden will meet with President-elect Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday, following Biden’s formal invitation. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed this meeting in a statement released Saturday.
Trump, who won the presidential election on November 5 against current Vice President Kamala Harris, will officially take office on January 20. “At President Biden’s invitation, President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday,” Jean-Pierre announced.
Initially, Biden, a Democrat, intended to run for a second term. However, he exited the race in July after a challenging debate against Republican contender Trump. Biden addressed his upcoming meeting with Trump when asked about potential threats to democracy, saying, “I'm going to see him on Wednesday,” though he offered no further details.
Biden shared these remarks with reporters on Saturday after attending a church service in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he spent the weekend. He did not disclose what topics he might discuss with Trump, leaving the nation speculating on the nature of this pivotal conversation.
