Bitcoin Holds Steady Near USD 80k as the CLARITY Act Heads for a Decisive Senate Vote

BTCUSD pared most of its gains as demand for riskier assets decreased.  It reached a low of  $79800 and is currently trading at roughly $80522.

The CLARITY Act is a milestone initiative to end the protracted jurisdictional dispute between the SEC and CFTC by defining clear lines for digital assets based on their classification as commodities or securities. After its unanimous approval in the House in July 2025, the bill entered a high-stakes Senate stage marked by heated debate on institutional custody requirements, stablecoin yield restrictions, and DeFi safe harbors. The Senate Banking Committee has released updated text as of mid-May 2026 to handle these flashpoints, therefore setting the stage for a crucial committee vote determining whether the bill can achieve the 60-vote threshold needed for final passage. Market participants are still very sensitive to every procedural update since the success or failure of the Act will fundamentally change the compliance scene, determine the pace of institutional adoption, and maybe put an end to the age of "regulation by enforcement" in the United States.
