When fans were left with "Black Clover" chapter 169, the Black Bulls were in particular trouble with the destruction of the Emperor's palace. The Elves had cast a reincarnation spell, which also possessed a number of the Emperor's advisors.
More than just a possession of the Emperor's trusted people, Captain Yami finds out that Charlotte Roselei, captain of the Blue Rose squad, has also been possessed. "Black Clover" chapter 169 showed Charlotte Roselei as a very tough opponent. Even with backup from Sol Marron, Charlotte's fighting style has significantly changed due to the possessions, proving a more unpredictable opponent for both magic knights.
Aside from Charlotte's peculiar fighting style after being possessed by the elf, Captain Yami is particularly distracted by the orb containing Julius Novachrono's essence. The fact that Sol is also being particularly antagonistic because of her worrying about Charlotte doesn't help.
After Captain Yami is able to convince Sol to spare her own life by escaping with Julius' orb, Yami decides to take on Charlotte in a one-on-one duel. The duel turns for the worse when both Yami and Charlotte, now possessed, unleash devastating spells upon each other. During the heat of the moment, Yami promises Charlotte that he will not resort to killing her in contrast to the elf-possessed captain's promise of destroying the Black Bull captain.
Fans of the series can expect Captain Yami to keep his promise to Charlotte Roselei that he would fight her without resorting to killing her in "Black Clover" Chapter 170. It looks like the duel between the two captains is not over yet and some complications on the battlefield can still be introduced. Yami might not be able to take down possessed Charlotte so easily and may have to focus on finding other ways to defeat Charlotte Roselei.
With "Black Clover" chapter 169 just released in this week's Shonen Jump, Fans of "Black Clover" can expect chapter 170 to be released in Shonen Jump's upcoming issue, on Aug. 27.
