Even with titanic titles like Diablo III, World of Warcraft, and most recently, Overwatch, Blizzard hasn’t forgotten fans of some of its older titles. The publisher recently announced that StarCraft: Remastered will be released summer of this year, which is already causing quite a stir among the real-time strategy game community.
The remastered version of the iconic video game will retain much of the gameplay elements and the voice over work since the changes are mostly cosmetic. Specifically, Blizzard is giving the admittedly dated game 4K graphics, which is a testament to the title’s timeless appeal. It will also be getting some better audio effects along with some story additions, Engadget reports.
When the game first came out in 1998, it featured cutting edge graphical capabilities with impressive CGI cutscenes. Its story and characters were also hailed for bringing the video game industry to a new level of artistry. Now, the new content and the improved aspects will provide even veteran players with reasons to dive back in to build bases and duke it out with others or with the game’s competent AI system.
For the online element, the game will also be compatible with Blizzard App, which is basically the same client used to access multiplayer with games like Overwatch and Diablo III. This should save gamers some time and effort in firing up that old competitive streak, Kotaku reports.
Those who already have the original game, upgrading it shouldn’t prove much of an issue. It can basically be done by downloading the update version 1.18. Players will still be able to access their save files and online play shouldn’t feel all that different compared to the old version. What’s more, it’s entirely free, as fans of the title will find out once the patch comes out at the end of the month.
