Linda Reagan’s (Amy Carlson) death in season 8 was so sudden, to the extent that it was not shown on screen. However, the latest events in “Blue Bloods” season 9 could lead to the possibility that someone made the helicopter crash happen.
In the “Blue Bloods” season 9 premiere last Friday, fans saw Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) at a therapy session opening up about his wife’s death. Danny somehow carries guilt from what happened. His therapist needed to remind him that it was not his fault and that Linda died “doing her job.”
However, nothing comes easy for Danny, especially in moving on from Linda’s death. The capture of drug cartel member Louis Delgado (Lou Diamond Phillips) did not provide any relief either. Delgado admitted to burning Danny’s house in the “Blue Bloods” season 9 premiere. But the villain also made a comment about Linda’s death that had fans asking whether or not the helicopter crash was premeditated, aiming to kill Danny’s wife.

The sudden death of Linda was a disappointment to fans, considering that she had been in the show since the beginning. After season 8, fans can only wish that there would be some flashback scenes to see Linda once more, but it did not sound like executive producer Kevin Wade was up for it. But is it possible to honor Linda’s character by taking another look at her death in “Blue Bloods” season 9? Wade weighed in with a cryptic response.
The cop procedural drama EP told TVLine, “The fact that Delgado brings it up certainly sounds alarms for Danny, and likely does for the audience as well.” While not answering directly if there is more to Linda’s death, Wade implied that Danny will most likely keep digging following Delgado’s taunts in the “Blue Bloods” season 9 opener.
If Linda’s death turns out to be murder, it would make a good running storyline for the entire “Blue Bloods” season 9. Connecting the dots by himself is also a more likely closure for Danny. For the meantime, Danny will have to attend to other cases.
In this week’s episode, Danny and Baez (Marisa Ramirez) are assigned to track down a rogue NYPD detective. The former law enforcement officer is believed to be planning an attack on Danny’s father and NYPD commissioner, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). A new episode of “Blue Bloods” season 9 airs every Friday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
