Netflix just officially announced the release of “BoJack Horseman” season 6 but one of the main characters might not come back with it. Several convincing fan theories suggest that the season 5 finale might have foreshadowed Diane’s (Alison Brie) death.
It is safe to assume that “BoJack Horseman” season 6 will pick up from the moment BoJack (Will Arnett) finally accepted he needed help by letting Diane bring him to rehab. But note that season 5 officially ended after Diane drove off into the sunset and her Prius entered that tunnel. And this is speculated as the real build-up to the opening of a new season.

Eagle-eyed fans noted that Diane was portrayed in several allusions to the late Princess Diana. In season 5 episode 7, Diane appeared looking like the late British royal. The closing scene of season 5 was Diane driving into a tunnel. What do these say about Diane’s fate in “BoJack Horseman” season 6?
Reddit user thirtheenst explained that Princess Diana died in a car crash in a tunnel. And since there was a prior comparison between the former princess of Wales and Diane, these instances were deemed major clues for “BoJack Horseman” season 6.
If “BoJack Horseman” season 6 opens with a little bit of a time jump and the said fan theory is accurate, there is a chance that Diane will be killed offscreen. And some fans are not ready for that setup. So others suggest that Diane might, indeed, meet a car accident but will evade death in the process. Then, maybe, a new misfortune of a friend is another wake-up call for BoJack.
Since the first season, Diane has been one of the very few characters in the series who seem to always act based on logic and with sensitivity. But in season 5, the show dug deeper into Diane’s own frustrations and inner demons. So it would also make sense if she remains alive in “BoJack Horseman” season 6 so the viewers can follow her own arc and how she will pull through.
Netflix has not yet announced a specific release date for “BoJack Horseman” season 6. But it will most likely be in 2019.
