Boingo’s Derek Peterson Named CTO of the Year

LOS ANGELES, March 28, 2017 -- Boingo Wireless (NASDAQ:WIFI), the leading DAS, small cell and Wi-Fi provider that serves consumers, carriers and advertisers worldwide, today announced that its chief technology officer, Derek Peterson, Ph.D., has been named CTO of the Year by the Los Angeles Business Journal. The publication’s annual CTO Awards recognized Dr. Peterson for leading Boingo to milestones that include the launch of Passpoint, international expansion of Boingo Broadband and deployment of cellular distributed antenna systems (DAS) and small cell networks at large public venues across the country.

As Boingo’s lead technical strategist, Dr. Peterson is pioneering the adoption and deployment of the latest wireless technologies including Passpoint, an auto-authenticating Wi-Fi solution, and network functions virtualization (NFV). He is an industry advocate for the network convergence of licensed and unlicensed spectrum to accommodate the rapid growth of mobile data traffic and helps drive standards adoption through his involvement with the Wireless Broadband Alliance, MulteFire Alliance, CBRS Alliance, Wi-Fi Alliance, WIA’s Innovation Council and the New IP Agency (NIA).
