Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are in a heated commotion after the latter accused the former of not paying enough for child support. The “Maleficent” actress filed a case on Tuesday as she alleged that her ex-husband is not fulfilling his commitment to their kids.
In the documents filed by her lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean, it is stated that Brad Pitt has not paid "meaningful" child support since their separation in 2016. Hours after the filing at the Los Angeles Superior Court, the actor’s camp contested the claims that he has failed to support their children.
EconoTimes reported that Brad Pitt’s camp dismissed the allegations and called the move as a mere publicity stunt. His lawyer, Lance Spiegel, also said that Jolie’s move is “unnecessary” and a “thinly veiled effort to manipulate media coverage.” Moreover, sources close to the actor attested that Pitt did not neglect his commitment and he does not have any plans of doing so.
Now, a day after Angelina Jolie’s court filing, Brad Pitt’s legal team filed their response to the accusations. In documents submitted to the court on Wednesday, Aug. 8, it is stated that the actor paid more than $1.3 million in "bills" for the benefit of Jolie and their six children and he loaned an additional $8 million to Jolie to help her buy a house where she and her children now reside.
For that statement, Angelina Jolie’s camp slammed the actor. As per USA Today, the actress’ lawyer stressed that “a loan is Not a Child Support.” DeJean explained that the $8 million he gave is a loan that the actress has to pay Pitt and it even has an interest. She added that Jolie will honor that loan “but it is not child support and to represent it as such is misleading and inaccurate.”
The attorney went on to say that her client is asking Brad Pitt to shoulder half or 50 percent of their children’s expenses but he has not paid his share. The lawyer added that “child support is not optional in California,” so Pitt should contribute.
Finally, Angelina Jolie’s lawyer said that they are hoping that this will be resolved soon without delay and a need for a court order. At the time of this writing, Brad Pitt’s side has not responded yet to these new statements.
