Brazzers, one of the biggest paid-subscription porn sites in the market suffered a major security breach, which resulted in the account information of almost 800,000 users to be exposed. This applies to both the forum section of the porn site and its actual subscription base.
Vice’s Motherboard got details about the breach and reported that 790,724 accounts were affected. The information contained unique emails, as well as the usernames of the account holders, along with their passwords.
Suffice it to say, the users of the porn site’s forum and its corresponding video streaming site are not happy about this development. One user who asked to be anonymous spoke to Motherboard about the situation and expressed their disappointment regarding the breach, while at the same time acknowledging that incidents like this were just part of using the internet now.
“It's unfortunate that my information was included in the breach, but that's the risk you run making an account anywhere on the web,” the anonymous user wrote in an email.
Brazzers public relations manager, Matt Stevens also sent an email to Motherboard, saying that a similar incident happened in the past.
“This matches an incident which occurred in 2012 with our 'Brazzersforum,' which was managed by a third party,” he wrote. “The incident occurred because of a vulnerability in the said third party software, the 'vBulletin' software, and not Brazzers itself.”
The biggest problem with the hacking of the forum instead of just the porn site itself is how it invades the most intimate thoughts of the users, according to security expert Troy Hunt. While the intentions of users who paid to watch videos at Brazzers could simply be interpreted in a million different ways, the users at the forum actually talked about their most deeply-held fantasies in detail. To have their information revealed risks bearing this secret part of their personalities without their permission.
PC World reports that the forums are still unavailable to users. In light of these developments, perhaps it’s for the best to steer clear of the site for the time being.
