Marvel Studios and Disney’s “The Marvels” aims for $75 million to $80 million during its first four weeks in theaters, which is 50% below the opening for the first “Captain Marvel” film that posted a 3-day $153 million.

“The Marvels,” the 33rd installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe scheduled to premiere on November 10, is a sequel to “Captain Marvel,” a 2019 movie starring Brie Larson. Per The Hollywood Reporter, tracking for the imminent new MCU movie varies greatly depending upon the research firm; The Quorom projects $80 million to $90 million, while NRG believes it is worth $72 million to $88 million.

What Fans Should Expect In ‘The Marvels’ Movie?

Brie Larson is joined in “The Marvels” by Iman Vellani, the breakthrough actress of the Disney+ series titled “Ms. Marvel,” and Teyonah Parris, who played Monica Rambeau, the grown-up version of Captain Marvel. “WandaVision,” which had “The Marvels” screenwriter Megan McDonnell among its writers, was Teyonah’s Marvel debut film.

Other stars confirmed to appear in “The Marvels” include Saagar Shaikh, Mohan Kapur, Zenobia Shroff, Gary Lewis and Park Seo Joon. Seo Joon was cast in the imminent movie in June 2021 in an undisclosed role, though his appearance in the trailer strongly suggests that he is playing Prince Yan.

Brie Larson Not Interested In Reprising Her Role After Backlash?

Meanwhile, Brie Larson became a popular target for online criticism after being cast as Carol Danvers in Marvel Studios' “Captain Marvel,” and the hatred only appeared to grow following the film's release.

Rumors about the actress being tough to work with, along with certain interview snippets that circulated during the “Avengers: Endgame” publicity tour, made Brie public enemy number one for a particular internet faction.

Though Brie has previously dismissed the backlash, author Joanna Robinson indicated in the recently-released “MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios” book that it did take its toll on Brie, who was reportedly being positioned to lead the MCU as part of its new "trinity" at one point.

"The future of those Marvel icons was unclear. The departure of franchise anchors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson had already taken its toll, as had the shocking loss of Chadwick Boseman, but other MCU stalwarts were heading for the exits. The Guardians of the Galaxy cast went on a farewell tour, Brie Larson grew disillusioned, and Marvel tussled with Sony in a custody battle over Tom Holland,” the author claimed.

During a recent episode of “The Watch” podcast, Robinson went so far as to suggest that Brie no longer wants to portray Danvers. "[Marvel Studios] put Brie Larson in [a prominent place in the MCU]. I don't know if Brie Larson was the wrong person for the role necessarily. But the toxic backlash means that Brie Larson doesn't want to play Carol Danvers anymore,” she claimed.

Brie Larson will reprise her role as Captain Marvel in next month's sequel, The Marvels, but if these claims are true, she may only be performing her contractual obligations and plans to retire the costume as soon as possible.
