The transfer of Bruno Fernandes with Manchester United still remains an uncertainty despite the deadline only 9 days away. While United has been linked with the 24-year-old all summer long, the team has curiously hasn’t made hard moves to acquire the midfielder.
This is quite curious given that Bruno Fernandes has been spectacular during Sporting’s last season, scoring an impressive 31 goals. It’s for this reason that Italian sports journalists Gabriele Marcotti warns United fans to lower their expectations about the rumors until such time that United confirms the transfer.
“I just think this is something where United, if they really wanted [Bruno Fernandes], would have pulled the trigger on this earlier. Certainly, from what I'm told, United don't view him necessarily as a priority,” Marcotti told ESPN (via Mirror).
Bruno Fernandes and his next chapter
With the recent heartbreaking loss of Sporting against Valencia, Bruno Fernandes leaving the team appears certain. Fernandes’ social media posting solidified his leaving when he captioned the post with the word “sempre,” which simply translates to “always.”
Several news outlets interpret this as Bruno Fernandes’ way of saying that Sporting will always have a special place in the family’s heart and the next chapter of his journey is about to begin. Whether that chapter will take place with United, however, remains unclear as of this writing.
Indeed, Bruno Fernandes was set to head over to England for a medical last Saturday, but that reportedly hasn’t panned out, Express reported. As for the 24-year-old himself, he previously expressed his desire to play with Man Utd but also admits he isn’t sure about his place with the team.
Bruno Fernandes is a great fit for Man Utd
With United needing to shore up its midfielder position, it’s a wonder why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t aggressively trying to land Bruno Fernandes. Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini left the position with a void to fill, and Fernandes could patch that hole no problem. But as it stands, United’s silence has become deafening at this point, and fans are becoming more and more restless.
Especially with the Premiere League rearing its head on the horizon. Whatever the case, news about Bruno Fernandes and where he’s headed next is expected to arrive this week. And until then, fans should simply wait and exercise patience as the rumor mill will undoubtedly spur more speculations about Fernandes and what his future holds.
