Africa CDC's Monday figures put the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak death toll at 5,376 across the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Kenya, showing the outbreak's regional reach.
The DRC accounted for 5,372 deaths; Kenya and Uganda each reported two. The count also includes about 10,444 infections across the three countries, while the reported death rate is above 50%.
The DRC declared the outbreak in mid-May; it is the largest of the 17 Ebola outbreaks recorded there. The latest tally adds to EconoTimes' previous coverage of the rising death toll.
Uganda recorded 20 cases, nearly all among people who had traveled from the DRC, before it was declared Ebola-free in August. Kenya reported nine infections and two deaths in October, its first recorded Ebola cases.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said two suspected Ebola cases in Adamawa tested negative in two laboratory rounds. Nigeria's October case was its first imported Ebola infection in more than a decade, and no Ebola deaths have been recorded.
