A Butler County jail entry described by The Roys Report lists Christian writer Samuel Sey for an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold, while showing no criminal charge against him. The entry matters because it records an immigration hold without stating its basis.

The Roys Report said Sey was booked Oct. 21 and the jail’s Oct. 23 listing carried the label “Hold for ICE.” The outlet said its account of the county record showed no criminal charge and did not establish the reason for the hold. It also reported that a Butler County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson had not returned its calls.

Sey has publicly opposed illegal immigration and linked that position partly to his mother’s decision to follow Canada’s immigration process.

The available descriptions do not establish Sey’s immigration status when he was booked. In an earlier blog post, Sey described himself as a legal resident whose U.S. immigration process was incomplete. A Sept. 16 announcement by the Center for Christian Virtue called him a “legal immigrant.” Neither description confirms his status on Oct. 21.
