Tous Les Jours, the South Korean bakery franchise owned by CJ Foodville, said this week that it will expand its plant-based products to reach the international market. It aims to sell its special bread products to the United States and other countries as the demand for vegan options increases.
According to Pulse News, Tous Les Jours will kick off expansion plans for its plant-based products by adding more bread options to its menu. These vegan baked goods are made without any dairy, and the company used olive oil as a substitute to retain the brand’s signature soft and chewy texture.
Tous Les Jours Outside of South Korea
The bakery chain also released three other versions of its bread products baked with additional ingredients like tomatoes. The company said these items have increased Tous Les Jours’ sales and saw its monthly sales of over 12,000 units.
In the U.S., it already launched two types of plant-based bread in June. Its multi-grain and olive basil loaf bread is the most popular item, selling thousands monthly. The popularity of this particular bread reportedly made it a best-seller that accounts for 10% of the total sales for loaf bread.
Tous Les Jours also released two new plant-based breads in Indonesia: the “Japchae Croquette” and the “Crispy Chicken Burger.” Although these items feature Korean ingredients, they were made to suit the palate of Indonesians.
And since they are mostly Muslims, the bakery’s use of soy protein instead of pork made the products “acceptable” for the locals. Now, these plant-based breads are selling well in the country.
Continuous Expansion of Plant-Based Food Items
Tous Les Jours said it will continue producing more plant-based baked goods. It also plans to expand its offerings under this “animal-free” category. The company said its new creations would make their way to its South Korea and overseas stores.
“Tous Les Jours is breaking the prejudice that ‘vegetable products are tasteless’ and is focusing on developing products that take into account taste, health, and the environment,” an official at CJ Foodville said in a press release. “As a global bakery brand that takes the lead in creating a delicious and healthy life, we are expanding our domestic market. “We will create a sustainable F&B ecosystem even overseas.”
