CME Group’s revenue climbed 13% to $1.7373 billion in the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, while average daily trading volume set a third-quarter record for the derivatives exchange operator.
The company said its revenue was the highest for a third quarter. CME Group Chairman and CEO Terry Duffy said only one quarter in the company’s history had produced more revenue and adjusted net income. Revenue was $1.5376 billion in Q3 2025.
Net income rose to $1.0369 billion from $908 million, while diluted earnings per share increased to $2.89 from $2.49. On an adjusted basis, net income was $1.0839 billion and diluted earnings per share were $3.02, compared with $2.68 a year earlier. Adjusted operating income increased 15% to $1.2055 billion.
Clearing and transaction fees generated $1.3781 billion. Revenue from market data and information services rose 20% to $243.1 million. CME said year-over-year volume increased at least 10% in each of its six asset categories.
Average daily volume reached 29.445 million contracts, up from 25.322 million a year earlier and above the previous third-quarter record, set in 2024. Non-U.S. average daily volume was 9 million contracts, up 22%. Duffy linked customers’ activity to greater uncertainty and their need to manage risk. CME’s contracts span borrowing costs, stock benchmarks, currencies, energy, farm products and metals.
CME paid $465 million in regular dividends and repurchased $524 million of shares during the quarter. Investing.com reported that the adjusted earnings per share and revenue figures beat analyst estimates of $2.98 and $1.71 billion, respectively. The outlet also reported a 2.40% premarket decline in CME shares.
CME announced a Dec. 7, 2026, launch date for CME Securities Clearing Inc., pending necessary regulatory approvals. The company said the service would add a clearing option ahead of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s central clearing mandate.
