Activision just released a new update regarding the re-mastered version of the award-winning “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” and it is bound to enrage gamers. Not only is the game not available without also buying the universally loathed “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare,” it won’t be playable without the physical copy of the newer installment to the FPS franchise.
The restriction only applies to physical copies of the package, Gamespot notes, so those who will get the digital copies of the game won’t really have any problems. Even so, this is still expected to ruffle quite a few feathers since a lot of fans of the fourth Call of Duty game are only interested in buying a copy for themselves and then selling or trading the excess; i.e. the “Infinite Warfare” disc.
Even more damning is the fact that players will need to be constantly connected to the internet in order to play the game, which is going to tick off players who have problems with that setup. For one thing, many gamers don’t like being plugged into the internet all the time. For another, slow or unreliable connections can be an issue.
To be clear, the re-mastered “COD4” is not included on the disc. It needs to be downloaded once it’s been verified that the customer has a legitimate copy of “Infinite Warfare.” Once this is done, players will be given a voucher code for the PlayStation 4 version and a Steam key for the PC version, Polygon reports. Xbox One owners will be able to download the game automatically.
“COD4: Modern Warfare Re-mastered” can be bought via “Infinite Warfare’s” Legacy edition, as well as the Legacy Pro and Digital Deluxe packages. Starting prices stand at $80, which is $20 more than the latest installment costs on its own.
