Marc Miller, Canada's Minister of Canadian Identity and Heritage, who also oversees Official Languages, marked Dussehra in a statement dated Oct. 20, highlighting how Hindu communities share traditions across generations.

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, marks the end of Navratri and commemorates Lord Rama's victory over Ravana. Miller associated the festival with courage and justice.

Miller cited singing, decorating homes and watching fireworks among family customs. He also pointed to community gatherings and artistic performances, saying these observances help Canadians express their cultural identities and connect across generations.

The statement named Durga, Saraswati and Lakshmi among the deities honored during Dussehra. Miller described the celebrations as part of Canada's cultural diversity. The statement announced no policy measure or funding.
