The 140th China Import and Export Fair is scheduled to run in Guangzhou in three phases through Nov. 4, with China’s State Council describing the session as the fair’s 70th anniversary.
China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) lists 1.55 million square meters of exhibition space and says more than 30,000 enterprises are expected to participate. The ministry assigns the phases to advanced manufacturing, quality home life and better life.
The official calendar sets the first phase for Oct. 15-19, the second for Oct. 23-27 and the final phase for Oct. 31-Nov. 4. MOFCOM describes the fair as a forum for international trade cooperation and connecting buyers with suppliers. The ministry says it is co-hosted by the ministry and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, with China Foreign Trade Centre as the organizer.
The previous session, the 139th, drew 314,000 overseas buyers from 220 countries and regions, MOFCOM says. The State Council’s Oct. 14 report described the 140th session as marking the fair’s 70th anniversary. The Ministry of Commerce says the fair was established in 1957.
At an Oct. 14 symposium with representatives of overseas buyers and exhibitors, Chinese Premier Li Qiang called the fair “an important window for the world to observe China.”
Xufang International Media, part of China International Communications Group, said it produced a documentary titled Chasing the Light. The producer says the film follows international buyers, chamber partners and technology entrepreneurs. It is arranged in four chapters: “First Encounter,” “Trust,” “Co-Creation” and “Leap.”
The second phase is scheduled to begin Oct. 23. The third phase is set to start Oct. 31, with the fair scheduled to conclude Nov. 4.
