Plot details for “Captain Marvel 2” are still under wraps. But Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) next main adversary might have already been revealed in the first movie — Kree’s ranking officer Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).
“Captain Marvel 2” is one of the highly anticipated titles under the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 — or the superhero movie era that comes after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” However, there are speculations that “Captain Marvel 2” will happen at an earlier timeline.
The first movie included events that happened in the late ‘80s and the ‘90s — it happened before Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) needed to wear an eye patch. But the “Avengers: Endgame” took place a couple of decades later and having “Captain Marvel 2” as a sequel will only leave many plot holes.
It is also important to note that, while Ronan had minimal participation in the first movie, his last scene in it was quite telling that he could return in “Captain Marvel 2.” Marvel fans who have seen the Larson-led movie may recall that Ronan told his subordinates before escaping, “We’ll be back for the weapon.” The “weapon” he was referring to is Carol after absorbing the power and energy from the Tesseract.
When the “Avengers: Infinity War” end-credits scene showed that Fury’s first response to the Thanos (Josh Brolin) snap was to call Carol, many fans thought she will ultimately end the main villain. But Carol was busy for the most part of “Avengers: Endgame,” though, she did have perfect timing in the final battle. Her appearance also made it clear how powerful she is. Thanos cannot even knock her out without using the Power Stone. It then makes sense why Ronan and the entire Kree Empire will be hell-bent in “acquiring” Carol in “Captain Marvel 2.”
It is interesting, though, how the plot will play out if Ronan becomes the main villain in “Captain Marvel 2.” Obviously, something needs to happen to explain why he was able to live until the “Guardians of the Galaxy” timeline.
Aside from “Spider-Man: Far Away From Home,” there is very little information known about upcoming MCU films such as “Captain Marvel 2.” It is also important to note that Marvel has yet to confirm a second Larson-led film let alone its release date. However, reports speculate that if it is going to happen, it could premiere in 2021.
