Fans are wondering if “Chicago Med” season 5 will still return to NBC or it was canceled already. The idea of cancellation arose after two of the favorite characters have left the show in the previous season. Two doctors - Dr. Connor Rhodes and Dr. Ava Bekker made their exits in the fourth installment, so the speculations that the show was axed started to go around.
Series renewal
But fans should not be worried because “Chicago Med” season 5 is returning after all. The medical drama has been renewed on NBC alongside the other Chicago franchise including “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD.” The renewal was announced with the “Fire” having the most number of seasons to date with its upcoming eight season premiere.
"We remain in awe of the job Dick Wolf, our producers, casts, and crews do in creating some of the most compelling television today," The Hollywood Reporter quoted Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of NBC TV programming, as saying in a statement. "The 'Chicago' franchise is a linchpin of our schedule, and we're thrilled that audiences have embraced our Wednesdays with such incredible passion for these shows and characters."
Cast and returning character confirmed
“Chicago Med” season 5 will still star Nick Gehlfuss, Torrey DeVitto, Oliver Platt, Marlyne Barrett, Brian Tee, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Yaya DaCosta. They will still be seen inside the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center as they do their duties as doctors and medical staff.
As mentioned, Colin Donnell (Dr. Connor) and Norma Kuhling (Dr. Bekker) have left the show before “Chicago Med” season 5 was renewed. While their exit was already announced, it was reported that Donnell will still be returning in the upcoming installment. However, he will be in one episode only because his appearance was only to give closure to Dr. Connor’s unfinished business in the drama.
Airdate
“Chicago Med” season 5 will return with 20 episodes on NBC. Its exact airdate is not available yet but based on predictions, it could arrive in the fall, between the months of September and November. The predicted time of arrival was based on the show’s past premiere dates for the drama’s seasons 1 to 4.
